For my final project of the 2013 school year I am doing a dog training package. We have again, been lucky enough to get to team up with HEC-TV again to dog a story about the day in the life of a dog, and a hearing and seeing story. I focused my package on Dog Trainers and what they do. I met up with Shane Wisdom, founder of Dog Wisdom, who works at Happy Tails. He told me everything, from how to train puppies to "training" their owners. I was given half an hour to get as much b-roll as I could. I was freaking out because every time I would go to white balance, there would be a blue tint. I just went with it and got what I needed. I thought I would be able to color correct later, it was difficult but eventually it came out.
On Tuesday December 17 the Broadcast Technology II students got to experience what a real live taping of a show would be like. We teamed up with HEC-TV earlier in the year to do a live taping but this was our own show, Ladue View. Prior to the show date we all got jobs so that the day of everything would run smoothly. I was assigned to 'Aja.' This meant that I was in charge of making sure that all of the featured stories were ready to be played. The first few rehearsals were really frustrating because I was not told much, except to pause and play the video. Once I'd made a few mistakes I was given a more in depth summary. Once we practiced and I got the hang of it we taped it and were going to just start and get all the way through no matter what happened. The director for the day, Lillian Donahue, did an outstanding job communicating with everyone, and keeping calm. The whole thing was a success and it was really cool to have such a real life experience in a high school class. I am looking forward to the next time that we do a live taping because it is so much more fast and fun! To see the show visit http://lhstv.weebly.com/ladue-view.html
My initial plan for this month's project was going to be a Thanksgiving dinner that feeds international students. While filming, it was pretty loud so I could not hear perfectly what was coming into my headphones. I got back from getting many interviews, and a lot of Broll, I was super excited and heard many cool stories. Once I listened to the first interview I knew the project was ruined. It turns out the microphone volume on the camera was way too loud and it ruined all of my interviews. Instead of feeling sorry for myself I had already had a backup plan ready to go incase this fell through, which indeed it did. It is proven that healthier children do better in the classroom. This month I decided to explore this myself. At Old Bonhomme Elementary school Connie Jander and Matt Prange are the two Physical Education teachers. I got great interviews from them and was ready to get Broll of it all. When I came back the next day to edit I was extremely happy with everything, now it was a matter of creating a story people would care about. With hard work and endless editing I finally have a project which I am happy to say came out a lot better than expected. Since 2013 is coming to a close it will soon be time to start a new slate. New story ideas, new people, and a new year!
Ladue had their 2013 Homecoming weekend Thursday October 3rd through Saturday night, October 5th. To kick off the weekend was the school wide pep-rally held during AcLab on Thursday. The Ladue dance and cheer teams put on performances that were enjoyed by everyone watching. The energy in the room was contagious. The array of sports teams gave a run down of their seasons and upcoming games. The robotics team at Ladue presented one of their robot's to the crowd. The bonfire took place Friday night. Again the dance team preformed, there was a D.J., food, and the bonfire. A rainy Saturday morning was made fun with the homecoming parade. A ton of different clubs at the high school walked in the parade. Different elementary schools around Ladue walked as well. Saturday afternoon the Ladue football game against Affton High School was played and well attended. Finally the long waited homecoming dance was Saturday night in the gymnasium. Based on pictures and videos, it appears that everyone had a fantastic time at Ladue's Homecoming.
On Tuesday September 10, 2013, the sport that Saint Louis is known for, teamed up with many bullying prevention organizations. I found out about this through Cyndi Willenbrock, the author of, "Marshall the Miracle Dog." When I first found out that I had the opportunity to work with Cyndi and Marshall I did not hesitate to contact her. Marshall is a three-legged yellow lab who can show what bullying can do to people and animals. For more information on Marshall and his story you can visit http://marshallthemiracledog.com/ On Tuesday prior to the Cardinals game against the Brewers, there was a parade around the field. Participating in the parade were different schools, organizations, and people from around Saint Louis to raise awareness about bullying. My main job that night was to get as many shots as I could of all of the activities going on at Busch Stadium. There was a huge turnout and everyone was so happy to be there! I could not have asked for a better project to start the year off with. I can not wait to see the results!!!
